My Top 5 Actresses in 2010

My top 5 favorite actresses of 2010. And why they are so great in my opinion.

Before I begin, this list is my opinion. Others might have other opinions on who should be in this list but I believe these 5 wonderful ladies deserve to be here.

Number 5 - Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick has only just recently come to the attention of movie goers, but she has been in the business since 1998. She went on to showcase her true acting ability, starring alongside George Clooney in the movie Up In The Air. This movie made her a great actress. She is also in the twilight movies, which increases her popularity. I expect big things from her in the future.

Number 4 - Emma Stone

People used to know Stone as that girl from Zombieland, but thanks to her first lead role in Easy A, she's on everyone's radar now. She funny, she's good-looking and a great actress. She's going to be in the new reboot of Spider-man, which should be interesting to see. She has even more for us in store. Emma Stone is here to stay, so watch out for her.

Number 3 - Mia Wasikowska

This young Australian actress had quite the 2010. She came out of nowhere to win the role in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, where she gave quite a performance. I will be looking forward to seeing more of this young actress in the future.

Number 2 - Natalie Portman

Her performance in Black Swan was amazing. She's an experienced actress that has been in this business for a long time and she will stay here for a long time. Can't wait to see what the beautiful Ms. Portman will have in store for us after she gives birth.

And the number 1 goes to...

Chloƫ Grace Moretz...

This 13 year-old is amazing. She starred in Kick-ass, 500 Days of Summer, the vampire thriller Let Me In and a couple of other films. She is off to a great beginning and I hope to see this young actress rise into stardom.

Hope you enjoyed this list.

10 Shows That Changed Television

I guess there is an official list of the ten shows that changed television. Here is mine:

1. The George Gobel Show (1954 to 1960)
George Gobel called himself Lonesome George. Son of a butcher and a Sottish immigrant I think his humor came from the dust of his dad's butcher shop. In those early days of television, his fuzzy face would come on and keep us laughing for thirty minutes.

2. The Milton Berle Show (1948 to 1956)
Milton Berle was born in Harlem the son of a varnish salesman. I'm sure that he learned lots of jokes from his father. His mother loved the stage and Milton was a child star. He was known for stealing jokes and being down right corny. But he kept us laughing until he was driven out my more trendy comedians. But he was Mr. Television and was given credit for putting hundreds of thousands of television sets into the homes of the working class who loved his corn. He called himself Uncle Milty.

3. Gunsmoke (1955 to 1975)
Unlike George and Milton it is still easy to find James Arness playing the role of Marshall Dillon in old Dodge City. "You got three minutes to get out of Dodge, Mister!" With a great supporting cast and gripping stories Gun Smoke entertained us for 20 years and I still find myself watching Festus, Doc, and Kitty eyes wide open.

4. Dragnet (1951 to 1959, 1967-1970)
Smart-mouthed Detective Joe Friday and his bright, refined associate played by Ben Alexander thrilled us with action on the streets of Los Angeles. Dragnet after being made into two rather good movies was made into a rather corny movie. The last movie was like a comic strip rather than the true life drama based on the real Dragnet of the Los Angeles Police. "This is a true story. The names have been changed to protect the innocent."

5. Your Hit Parade (1950 to 1959)
After a long run on radio, Your Hit Parade hit the television screen. Snooky Lanson, Dorothy Collins, Gisele Mackenzie, and Russell Arms thrilled us with their singing. I met one of the backup singers for Snooky Lanson in case Lanson became ill (which he never did). The backup singer told me he was popular in Mexico and Europe and that is where he made his living. We shared a cab. He was successful. He had a very nice home (at least from the outside).

6. Jackie Gleason Show (1950 to 1959)
Gleason, Art Carney, Audry Meadows, and Jane Kean kept us laughing. Gleason played Ralph Kramdem, the bus driver, Carney played Ed Norton, the sewer worker, and the women, the poor house wives who had to live with them. Sometimes Gleason played other roles such as Reginald Van Gleason III, Rudy the Repairman, Joe the Bartender, The Poor Soul, Rum Fenwick Babbitt, Charlie Bratton, and The Bachelor. Occasionally you can still watch The Honeymooners. Great acting makes great comedy.

7. Bananza (1959 to 1973)
Starring Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker, Michael Landon and David Canary, Bananza is still showing here and there. This widowed rancher played by Greene spends his time getting his sons out of trouble. To me it was not as good as Gunsmoke but it had a flavor of its own and I liked the big guy, Hoss Cartwright, played by Dan Blocker. I also liked Pernell Roberts as Adam Cartwright. He was sort of a refined gunman.

8. The Odd Couple (1970-75)
Starring Tony Randall, Jack Klugman, Al Molinaro, Penny Marshall, The Odd Couple shows the antiques of the slob sports writer, Oscar Madison (Klugman) and the fastidious news writer, Felix Ungar (Randall) as they live together after separating from their wives. It is still around occasionally.

9. The Show of Shows (1950-54)
The Show of Shows starred Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca with Carl Reiner, Howard Morris, Nanette Fabray, Bill Hayes, Judy Johnson, and others. The skits were varied and funny but it was the stars that made the show. A "regular" cast would have fallen on its face.

10. The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962-92)
Like John Boehner, tending to cry if the sun came out, I was glad to see Jack Parr leave The Tonight Show. I don't now what changed Parr. He had been an entertaining host, better than the any we have today, but then he started to cry and moan. Carson took over and was the greatest of all the shows stars. There is no late-night host that compares with him. His skits were clever and funny but it was his monologue that warmed up the viewers. He had a great fun with his guest, not looking down the ladies blouses and sniffing their perfume. He could get serious during an interview and like, Letterman, he could be insightful. He never forgot his Midwest roots which added to his charm. He was an ensign on the battleship Pennsylvania at the end of WWII.

O.K. So I like humor. There are so many good shows to choose from.

The Top Films of Denzel Washington

There are numerous men and women who are convinced that Denzel Washington is amongst the most entertaining stars to show up over the monitors over the past several years. For the period of his particular work he's played a number of roles and so no matter what his role is people simply have to favor him. His unique appeal is usually existent regardless of what role he will be acting.

In this article we intend to make an effort to talk about a few of the very best film characters of Denzel Washington during his line of work.

Firstly we're going to talk about the part which has had given him the Oscar award this fantastic actor absolutely earned. It's the film "Training Day" filmed by Antoine Fuqua, where he has the character of the corrupt cop, the actual investigator Alonzo Harris. As you can actually notice within the film, this unique villain is very enjoyable.

Philadelphial (1993) is a second wonderful film in professional career of this incredible actor. It is really an amazing movie on the subject of conquering dissimilarities and setting people of various beliefs on precisely the same position of the barrier.

For those who have never watched the film from 1995, Crimson Tide, in that case you are really missing out in a major way. That film stars Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, James Gandolfini together with Viggo Mortenson and the like in the thriller structured around a atomic submarine.

One more amazing film to look at in which acts Denzel Washington is definitely the Inide Man, a hit by Spike Lee. I do not wish to indulge the facts of the film, but it's the most costly movie of Spike Lee and furthermore the scenario is organized round a bank heist.

Another movie we want to mention is regarded as the home pleasant film within this listing, and that is exactly Remember The Titans. Based upon the real tale of the initial racially involved school football team from the South, the following film has to be viewed.

As we have earlier stated it is my best Denzel Washington collection of preferred movies. Nonetheless, within the next several years we will see much more films of Denzel Washington, and it is attainable that this specific listing will certainly be modified.

Popular Movie Theme Songs

A good movie theme song will take you back to the movie every time you hear it. How many times have you heard a song on the radio and could envision, not only what was happening on the movie screen at that moment, but exactly where you were as well? Music has the ability to transport and transform. Here are some movie theme songs that have made their way into our lives forever:

*"Jump in the Line (Shake Senora)" by Harry Belafonte. This is the song from "Beetlejuice" at the end of the movie where they are having a seance.

*"In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. Who doesn't remember this scene from "Say Anything", where John Cusack is holding the boom box above his head, waiting for his lover to come back to him? It has become the anthem of jilted lovers (and would-be stalkers) everywhere.

*"Rocky's Theme (Gonna Fly Now)" by Bill Conti. This theme from "Rocky" and "Rocky II" will forever conjure up images of conquering hardship. When you hear this song, you know good things are about to happen!

*"Shout" by Otis Day and the Knights from National Lampoon's "Animal House" brings up images of debauchery and frat house mayhem.

*"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" has been performed by countless singers over the years, but none will ever match the poignancy and heart of Judy Garland's performance. It is the one etched into the heart of our nation.

*"Mrs. Robinson" by Simon and Garfunkel brings to mind coming of age and loss of innocence when we remember Dustin Hoffman in the pool scene with Anne Bancroft in "The Graduate".

*"Son of a Preacher Man" by Dusty Springfield brings to mind a very hip John Travolta and a mod Uma Thurman dancing in "Pulp Fiction".

*"Twist and Shout" by the Beatles brings us to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and a big parade celebration of youth conquering age once again.

*And, "If You Were Here", by the Thompson Twins has us sitting on a table over softly glowing birthday candles with Molly Ringwald in "Sixteen Candles".

Some movies transport us, but some seem to change entire generations. John Williams made magic twice with the soundtracks to the "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars" trilogies, and it is impossible to know whether the movies were such landmark successes because of the music, or if it was the other way around. We can all sing along with music from movies like "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "The Sound of Music", and we'll never see Tim Curry or Julie Andrews in any other way.

Some movies, though, can take us to the heart and feeling of another time. Forrest Gump took a new generation to the sixties and seventies with songs like "Break on Through To the Other Side" by The Doors, "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and "All Along the Watchtower" by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. They gave a young generation a glimpse into their parents' experience. It seems there is no job too big for a good piece of music.

It doesn't matter if it is a romance movie or horror movie or even a comedy movie, you will see that in these types of movies they might not have a big impact on the movie but they are still featured in the film itself.

  1. The first film- There's Something About Mary

Must Watch Movies of 2010

2010 has been a good year for movie goers. Whether you're into comic books, science fiction, or action, there was something for everybody. Here's a list of the must see movies of 2010:

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World - Here's a movie that flew a bit under the radar. It was well-promoted but it lost money at the box office. Now people can discover it for themselves on blu ray and DVD. Hardcore fans of anime and videogames may like it most, but there's heart and invention at work here. Call it Eternal Sunshine of The Videogame Mind.

Inception - Chris Nolan's brainy smash won over both critics and audiences and that ending is still being debated to this day. Well-cast and directed, Inception is one blockbuster worth watching and replaying. Blu ray and DVD hitting stores next week.

Toy Story 3 - A perfect way to end the Toy Story movies. Very funny and even touching, with an ending that brings grown men to tears. Sometimes we have to put away childish things and move on with our lives. Anyone who ever packed away beloved toys in the attic and maybe lost some along the way will tear up at the ending. Growing up sucks!

Centurion - B-movie expert Neil Marshall wrote and directed this Romans vs Picts bloodbath. Essentially a stripped down chase flick with gobs of gore and action and no "political intrigue" to slow the pace down. Marshall also throws in a warrior woman with blue face paint who wants revenge on Romans after her life and family was destroyed by them. Fun, rousing actioner.

Unstoppable - Tony Scott tones down his ADD style just enough and Denzel Washington and Chris Pine make an appealing team in this action movie with a refreshingly simple premise. After a train with chemicals takes off with no one aboard, two railroad workers must stop the train before people are hurt or killed. A kinetic thriller that never stops moving.

The Social Network - The story of facebook makes for a compelling story, perfectly cast and acted. Mark Zuckerberg is the asshole hero for our time, perfectly played by Jesse Eisenberg while the talented Andrew Garfield (as Mark's one true friend) and Justin Timberlake (yes, the dude from N Sync) lend great support. Timberlake in particular lets it rip as a sleazy jerk/Napstar creator.

The Town - Ben Affleck does a great job directing this movie set in Boston about low-level thugs and criminals. It has some excellent action scenes and a scary-good Jeremy Rennar (The Hurt Locker) as a swaggering, particularly dangerous thug. The supporting actor Oscar is his to lose right now.

Mother - Korean thriller with twists and turns from the director of the terrific monster movie The Host. This one is about more human monsters as an overprotective mother will do anything to prove that her mentally-challenged son is innocent of a brutal murder. One of the best thrillers in years.

Top 10 Must-See Movies to Netflix Now

Most films have been released for 2010, but I thought I would take time to highlight 10 little-seen gems that you can get right now off Netflix. You'll save money and find some terrific films if you use my list to fill your queue.

10) Mysterious Skin- My favorite director (Gregg Araki) and his best movie ever. Mysterious Skin is about two boys linked together by a horrible childhood trauma. At turns graphic, disturbing, yet filled with beauty and hope it's one of the best films of the decade. Joseph Gordon Leavitt (no longer that kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun) is nothing short of amazing.

9) Dead Man's Shoes- Paddy Considine is excellent in this brutal revenge drama from director Shane Meadows. The film is about a brother's quest for revenge after his mentally challenged brother is brutalized by some Midlands thugs in the squalid UK countryside. Some critics mistakenly called this an art-house torture porn, but it's light years better and more compelling than anything the overrated Eli Roth could ever come up with.

8) Frailty-Frailty is a horror gem starring and directed by Bill Paxton. A grisly tale of a seemingly loving father who believes he and his sons are the hands of God. He searches out people he believes to be demons and cuts them to pieces. Fine period detail and acting, especially from the young boys, Frailty is about religious devotion run amok and turned into madness. A must see.

7) In Bruges - In Bruges has the best screenplay of last year and some of the best acting of Collin Farrell's career. Clever and brutal, funny yet extremely violent, it's the film Guy Ritchie keeps trying to make, and one that keeps eluding him. One of the best films of last year.

6) Smiley Face - Director Gregg Araki's last film is a very funny stoner comedy starring the awesome Anna Faris. Sublimely silly movie that went direct to DVD, even though it's much funnier than many comedies that get theatrical releases these days.

5) Rules of Attraction - A sharp and sharply funny look at some nasty spoiled college students courtesy of author Bret Easton Ellis and writer/director Roger Avary. This is probably the best of the Ellis film adaptions to date (American Psycho with a terrific Christian Bale is another must see) and despite its lothsome characters, I loved every shocking and entertainig moment of the film.

4) Sex Drive - The teen sex comedy gets updated with hilarious results. Amazingly this was a box office dud but it was easily the funniest film of last year. The leads are likable and amusing and James Marsden all but steals the entire movie as the homophobic older brother bully character. Seth Green lends strong support as a sarcastic and smarmy Amish know it all. RUMPSRINGA!

3) Mirror Mask- Alice in Wonderland meets The Wizard of Oz by way of Neil Gaiman. MirrorMask is a thrilling and well-acted fantasy film meant for teens and adults. The worlds created are wholly original and star Stephenie Leonidas is perfect as the punky Emo goth who wants to run away from her creepy circus existence and gets more than she ever bargained for.

2) Cashback - Original and visually stunning comedy/drama about a young man who breaks up with his pretty girlfriend and learns he has the ability to stop time. His insomnia produces a chance for him to paint random subjects with time frozen and the film could be creepy in the wrong hands, ends up being delightful and something worth seeking out. All props go to the director for making a low-budget feature look like something with a bigger budget.

1) This Is England - Writer/director Shane Meadows returns with an autobiographical look at his childhood and his alliance with a young gang of skinhead thugs. Well-acted, at times hard to watch, and throughly compelling, This Is England may be about the UK but its themes of racial intolerance and hatred could take place anywhere in any country at any time. It could have been called This is America. The movie is brilliant, blistering stuff.
