A vibrant Canadian-born singer of Portuguese descent, Nelly Furtado broke onto the North-American scene in 2000 with her debut album Whoa, Nelly!. Four singles from that record landed on the charts, including the break-out single, “I’m Like a Bird,” which garnered her a Grammy Award. A second album, Folklore, was released three years later and was well-received by critics, but wasn’t as popular with fans. She was chosen, however, to record the official theme for the 2004 European Football Championship, “Força,” which made her an international name. Nevertheless, Nelly Furtado has found her greatest success yet with the release of her latest album, Loose.
Furtado’s career kicked into high gear in 2006 after she dropped her third album, Loose, in June. Her first single, “Promiscuous,” featuring Timbaland went straight to the clubs where it entertained dance lovers for the whole summer. Other hit singles from Loose have since been released, including the ever-popular “Maneater.” Nelly debuts on AskMen.com’s Top 99 list this year at a respectable No. 48… even if she did turn down an offer to pose for Playboy.
Her Loose tour takes her across five continents and kicks off sometime in early 2007. And Nelly also gets a chance to do a little acting as she appears on CSI in February. She gets to repay Timbaland for his work on her album by appearing on his single “Give It to Me,” which is already getting radio play. Striking while the iron is hot, Furtado has announced a Spanish language album that is due out this year.
