47 Lucy Liu

Following her 1991 debut on Beverly Hills, 90210, Lucy Liu had a string of one-off TV appearances, a part as a hooker in the 1995 indie film Bang, and a part in Jerry Maguire before she landed her career-making role on Ally McBeal. Since then, the exotic, gorgeous and diversely talented Lucy has launched a successful career and has appeared in such box-office smashes as Shanghai Noon, both Charlie’s Angels with Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore, Chicago, Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Domino with Keira Knightley, and Lucky Number Slevin -- just to name a few.

Lucy’s only cinematic appearance in 2006 was in Lucky Number Slevin, in which she played the object of Josh Hartnett’s affection and easily stepped into the shoes of a quirky, off-kilter character. 2006 also marked Lucy’s introduction as an executive producer: She produced the documentary about the 1956 Hungarian Revolution called Freedom’s Fury and she produced and starred in Devil to Pay and Code Name: The Cleaner. Although Lucy spent more time behind the camera than she did in front of it, her cute and quirky role in Lucky Number Slevin must have struck a chord with our readers since Lucy has moved up from her No. 93 position on last year’s list. As long as Lucy continues to challenge herself as an actress and a filmmaker, she’s sure to have a home here.

Lucy kicked off 2007 with an appearance in Code Name: The Cleaner, which quickly earned her recognition from both critics and audiences, but Lucy was generally praised for her expectedly strong performance. Lucy is also scheduled to appear in the horror flick Rise (opposite Michael Chiklis and Carla Gugino), and will appear as a femme fatale in the comedic mystery Watching the Detectives. She’ll also be the voice of Master Viper in the animated comedy Kung Fu Panda, and she’ll be appearing in the thriller Charlie Chan.
