56 Gwen Stefani

If you were asked to name a famous female pop artist who has been equally successful as a lead singer of a group and as a solo performer, there could be only one person who fits that bill. Gwen Stefani has been the front woman for the popular ska band No Doubt, and she released her first solo effort, Love. Angel. Music. Baby, to much success and acclaim in 2004. Stefani is also considered influential for her unique fashion sense and her fashion line L.A.M.B.

Her second solo album, The Sweet Escape, was released in December 2006 and its first single, “Wind It Up,” debuted at No. 40 on the U.S. Hot 100, a career high for her. She gave birth to her and Gavin Rossdale’s first child in May. In addition to gearing up her new album -- including a hot appearance on Saturday Night Live -- she put out a limited edition set of dolls based on her eclectic fashions. Her ranking may have slipped from No. 51 in 2006, but she still has some cards up her sleeve, so be prepared to see a lot of her in 2007.

Starting in North America, Stefani will embark on a worldwide concert tour in April in support of her new album. She is also working on a series of new products under her L.A.M.B. clothing and accessories label that she launched in 2003 and she hopes to release a new line of products sometime early in the year. 2007 should mark an upswing in interest in Stefani, as there is a rumor that she also plans to sit down with her old No Doubt bandmates and get another group album going.
